Easy English: read and understand with ease

Read about using Easy English resources to learn more, or to help others understand, about new information

My CP Guide will soon be introducing an all-new suite of resources which have been created in Easy English format. This can help to empower people who, for various reasons, use Easy English to provide clearer, more easily understandable information. A number of our topic introductions have been made into Easy English format for multiple age groups, offering an alternative option for people with CP who may have a co-occurrence of other disabilities or have low reading comprehension for any other reason.

Easy English is a highly simplified written and visual format which provides information for people with low English literacy. This may include:

• people with lifelong or acquired disabilities
• people of a non-English-speaking background, and
• people with low vision or other low reading comprehension.

It is recommended to use Easy English as a tool to help communicate information if you have a family member, a client, or any other person you are assisting who has low reading comprehension. The example page pictured below is from a new resource titled Places to get help, an Easy English information resource which provides guidance for people seeking various types of support services.

Easy English can be used as a reference to help with explaining new concepts in simple terms, or it can also be used without guidance from another person.  The Easy English resources which will be made available on My CP Guide include topics such as:

• seeking and engaging with new services
• managing health and personal hygeine
• recreation and socialising, and
• information about cerebral palsy.

My CP Guide will also introduce a new navigation and filtering system, specifically designed for the needs of users seeking Easy English information.
